Horse Power - Road to the Maclay: The Complete 6-Part SeriesReviewsI'm a Japanese rider who lives in Tokyo. I wanted to watch this DVD because I wanted to know about the American Hunter-seat equitation world. I watched this DVD and quite enjoyed as young riders are competing each other for the common aim - the Maclay Final. They are competitive riders and each of them have thier own background. I enjoyed this DVD as a real drama. Average Rating:![]() |

Riding for AmericaReviewsOlder video about competition equestion sports. There are newer ones and new ones out every year. It would be nice if Amazon carried them. What an incredible overview and explanation of the sports of show jumping, dressage, and three day eventing as it was practiced in 1982. Wonderful for folks who are new to horse sports, and invaluable for those seeking to learn more through history of the greats at that time. The interviews give incredible insights into the personalities of the riders and their horses, and the scenes are brilliantly interwoven to illustrate the comments the riders are making. This was originally shot to be a film rented to raise money for the USET, and was only later transferred to video and then DVD. One of the best overview equestrian videos of all time. High quality cinematography and scriptwriting. Interviews of the "greats" of riding: William Steinkraus, George Morris, Jimmy Wofford, Michael Plumb, Kim Walnes and more. Covers dressage, eventing and showjumping. Every horse lover should have this keepsake. The quality of the film is very poor. Pictures are grainey and out of focus in much of the film. Mr. Steinkraus is minimal in this film as he is shown only as narrator in a short segment. Had I known this is strictly an ammature video I would have saved my money. Thrilling? At best it is interesting. If you are really into this sport, it has little to show you. If you are interested in Olympic competition, save your money and buy an Equestrian Olympic DVD. This DVD is definately not worth the price and I would not recommend it to anyone. Dressage anyone? This is one exciting film about horsemanship and competition. The riders interviewed express their experience with the sport very well. The competitions are thrilling especially the timed events. Average Rating:![]() |
